THAT USUAL PERIODIC REMINDER

It seems that about once or twice each year we issue this reminder, just to make sure that everyone is "on the same page" with our Usage Policy.

Our dialup accounts are designed for "interactive access" and require that a "living human" be actually at the console of the machine dialed into the net through NetK2NE. It is also required that the "living human" be using the connection while the machine is dialed in.

There are timers on all our modems at all our POPs to guard against inactivity. These are nominally set for fifteen minutes. We say "nominally" because we have yet to see a computer clock that is "dead-on accurate" although most are very close.

If you are dialed in and if you "do nothing" for more than fifteen minutes you will be automatically disconnected. This does not give you a "bad mark" or anything silly like that. The only reason we do this is to economize the use of the modem pool so that the most people can get online at any one time.

Now, it is very easy to be logged in and "do nothing" for fifteen minutes and not even realize it. Let's face it - most folks are not "lightning-speed typists" and composing an email can be a chore - and one which can easily run past 15 minutes.

While you are typing an email message (into something like Pegasus, Eudora, or Outlook Express) no data passes through your modem and your machine appears idle to the network. If you take longer than 15 minutes to type your message, you will find yourself offline when you finish. This is not a problem. Just dial back in - check for new email - then send your outgoing message.

It is also very easy to have 15 minutes fly by un-noticed while you are reading a particularly interesting web-page, particularly if you decide to print out the page. Again - you might end up disconnected and, again, the "cure" is to simply dial back in.

Please try to remember that our dialup accounts are not designed to be a dedicated ("always on") connection to the internet. And if you have any questions, it is strongly advised that you read our Usage and Billing Policy, which you can find at

and if you still have any questions, please email for a clarification.

And in advance, we thank you for your cooperation and support!

SEARCHING MADE EASIER

There have been a few changes to the page where you can search for dialup numbers. Go check it out at www2.k2nesoft.com/private/search.html and give it a workout.

NATIONAL DIALUP HINTS & TIPS

We have added a web-page devoted entirely to our National DialUp System with tips on how to use it, how to set up a new dial connection for Windows operating systems (Win95 and newer), and how to correctly go about using email through the national dial system.

The link is at

If there is something you need to know which is not mentioned on that page please call the office or let one of us know by email.

PAYPAL

PAYPAL is a service available via the web where you can send and receive money to or from anyone on the net.

We are not a part of this - yet - but the possibility is rather intriguing, as it does present a method for allowing our users to pay for their internet services via credit card without all the usual mess of "merchant accounts" and the like.

If you get a chance, look it over. Use one of the links you will find on our Members Only site or the online version of this newsletter. We might be making this available as a payment option for you.

TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Do you like your internet service here at NetK2NE? We sure hope you do - and if so, please tell your friends (and be sure to check out our customer referral program - you can get yourself free time!).

OR TELL US!!

Are you having a problem with your internet service here at NetK2NE? Please let us know. Nothing in this world is perfect, and there is always room for improvement. We try very hard to stay on top of problems and take action before a situation is noticable, but things happen - usually without warning and usually at 3 in the morning!

It is always helpful - to you as the customer and to us as we try to make our service the best it can possibly be - to hear from you if you are having a problem.

EARN A FINDER FEE!

If any of our customers brings us a new leased line customer he or she will be rewarded with a very substantial finder fee for the referral.

Interested? Bring us a T1 customer and earn yourself... One Thousand Dollars! Yes, you read that correctly - a grand!! For specific information, please feel free to send email to vince-q@k2nesoft.com and you'll get a fast response to any question you might have.

CUSTOMER REFERRAL PROGRAM

A number of our customers have already earned free months of internet connection time through our new Customer Referral Program. You can do this also! Here's how it works:
  1. Refer a new customer to NetK2NE.
  2. If that customer signs up for a 3-month account, you get
one month added to your account, free.
  3. If that customer signs up for a one-year account, you get
two months added to your account, free.
When you refer someone to us for service, be sure that they know to mention your name when they sign up. Our new application forms have an entry-block for this information, so if they come into the office to sign up we will be certain to record this information so that your account with us will be properly credited.

Unfortunately, this program will not apply to gift accounts since those are a seasonal promotion and already at a discounted price.

This program also does not apply to commercial account referrals, however we are always willing to pay a generous finder's fee (commission) to anyone who brings us a commercial account.

OUR DIAL-UP LOCATIONS

Beginning in July 2001, we instituted nationwide dialup coverage. If you are not already using one of the numbers on our national system, you should switch to the national dialup system at your earliest possible opportunity.

With the exception of our dialup number in Browns Mills, all of our "old-style" dialup numbers are going away - in fact most of them have already been decommissioned.

All of the national numbers support 56k and ISDN.

If you encounter a problem, please call the office for instructions.

OUR GET-TOGETHER AND FOOD-BASH!

For those who may be receiving this newsletter for the first time, let me remind you that one thing we do here at NetK2NE that is somewhat different than most other ISPs in the area is our practice of having a periodic "foodbash and get-together." I have always believed that it is very important for me to know our customers as more than a voice on the phone or an entry in our log files, and also it is a good thing for all of us to have a chance to get out and meet each other with something on the table other than a computer and a keyboard!

With this in mind...

We will be setting the date for the next FoodBash in a month or so.

For those who have never been there, Riccardo's Pizza is located on Lakehurst Road near the entrance to Country Lakes (it is not in the "Wawa shopping plaza"). If you need detailed directions, please call the office. If you prefer, you can meet us at the office and follow the crowd!

And now for the OLD BUT IMPORTANT Department....
